SINGAPORE FLIGHT UNDER TYPHOON MEGI

I have been planning my trip to Singapore since the beginning of the summer, two weeks ago, I knew that the weekend of OCT 23 was perfect, I would have finished all of my mid terms, no major assignment is due the following week and it's my birthday. It was perfect until I received the horrible email on Tuesday night from my home university, Queen's, to warn me about the super typhoon Megi, which hit south east Asia on OCT 18 and making its way towards Hong Kong....... two days before my flight. Hong Kong became extremely windy in the next two days  and I became increasingly concerned with flying under the typhoon warning in Hong Kong.

On Wednesday, the day before leaving Hong Kong, I checked my flight to make sure it is not canceled under sever weather condition, and sure enough, it was........ the nightmare begins.  Having lived in Canada most of my life, I have never experienced any form of natural disaster, the worst I have seen is really heavy snow..... so I had no idea what typhoon would bring to Hong Kong. I gave up hope, I checked multiple times to make sure that it was cancelled, I asked around if canceled flight have ever resumed before, and people told me no.

well.... as least I do not have to fly with a typhoon warning in place.

So on Thursday, I woke up, I imagined how wonderful my birthday would have been in Singapore with my boyfriend..... and looked around me to see what it will be. I was disappointed. I went to meetings in the morning and went to the library with my "Entrepreneur" text book in the afternoon....... it was then 2: 30... I remember thinking: " I would be leaving in 30 minutes if the flight was not canceled..." I sat there, and checked my flight one last time, and there it was..... under status, it was empty, it was no longer "Canceled" I refreshed the page many times to make sure it was real! I run to another computer to check if it was a mistake. But it remained like that- not canceled! But everything was too late, I have already called off the trip, my boyfriend would not be picking me up because he thought it was canceled, everything is ruined anyways. %>_<%

But I really wanted to go, for a lot of reasons, so I told myself to give it one last chance, to see if I was meant to be stuck in Hong Kong for my birthday, or am I destined to go to Singapore against all odds. and I emailed my boyfriend to let him know the situation and to asked him to pick me up from the airport. But this means I need to go, as soon as possible, or I would not be able to catch my flight. If I do not get a email in one hour, I would not be going, he had a hour to find out about the email, at the main time I went back to my room to pack!

At 3: 00 I was on my way to print out the flight schedule and to get cash, that's when I met Pam who was going to Shenzhen, I asked to go with her group since it was along the way. We planned to leave at 3:30, any later would be cutting the flight time too close, but unfortunately and fortunately some one was late! Pam told me that the air port had wireless internet, so I decided to check the pickup confirmation at the airport, so I thought that would be possible.

3: 40pm, still no answer from my boyfriend.....

3: 45pm, everyone arrived, I logged on to facebook and checked my email one last time

He confirmed. I smiled, we left immediately after.

The trip to the airport was not as smooth as I would have noped, I arrived 15 minutes before the gate closed, now all I have to do is find the gate. I got off of wrong floors, I went to the wrong terminal, and I had no idea where the gate was. I had 2 minutes before gate closed, there would not be anytime to check my email.....

I do not think I can remember the last time I ran so much, I could not catch my breath, but I was thinking, if I screw this up, it would be my fault entirely! finally, time was up, I was not at the gate.

two minutes later I saw, I saw gate Q! and a long line up from it..... lol..... people were still checking in, the gate was still open. lucky! I met up with two other people who were also going to Singapore and followed them to get to the terminal, it was final call.

The wind outside was scary, the trees were shaking left and right, as I sat in my seat on the plane, I could feel the plane shaking a little, but there is no turning back now, I would be able to see my Draco in 4 hours, and it was what I wanted.
