I am ashamed to say that after a year... I finally went to Five Guys, the burger place..... but I would like to have the chance to defend myself.... it is too far from my place... I would have gone a lot sooner if it was closer... but anyways.... in the mist of exam time... my bf and I found the time to go out of our way to try it out and see what all the fuss is about...
recent I have noticed a trend towards gourmet burger chains around Ontario.... or maybe Canada for that matter... but I have no proof since I have been staying put in Ontario... I have been watching "diner drive in and dive" for a quite a long time... and have been very jealous of the awesome gourmet burgers they have in their diners... so I was quite excited to try the Five Guys out with my bf... thus six guys and one girl... get it??? I know it's lame...>.<
taste: 6/10
atmosphere: 7/10
price point: 7/10
go again??? unlikely (too far from my place.. and the food is not extraordinary enough to go out of my way...)
not knowing the quantity of their food... we ordered 1 hamburger for bf, and one mini bacon burger for me, and large fries to share... sounded pretty reasonable... right... it totaled $17.60.. (OMG expensive for a burger place)
there is a general complain about how it takes them a really long time to get the order ready so they provide free peanuts... at first I did not know... and looked around like a idiot at other people's table and asking bf why does everyone have peanuts... then I noticed a big box of peanuts... and got myself some <3 I quite enjoy the peanut actually... remind me of China... we use to sit around to eat peanuts and sunflower seeds after dinner or watching tv.
the kitchen is very open concept... you can see everything.. and I am ashamed to say that it's clearer than my own kitchen.... sigh... at first it seemed all the cooks, servers were guys... and bf was like... are there five guys working here to stay true to their name? but then we noticed a girl... so that myth has been dismissed. lol
here is our order... it was quite fast.... 8 mins?? but it is lunch time... so generally very little people...
our large fries... they claim that their fries are freshly cut... but it is not very crunchy...
here is my burger.. the mini bacon burger.. the topping were flooding out everywhere...
amused by their toppings.. like a true restaurant critic... I tasted the toppings by themselves... and I m sad to say that it was not seasoned and had no flavour... disappointed>.<
I personally had trouble fitting the burger in my mouth.... it was so big... even though I had the mini burger. but once I had a bit... the burger was pretty bland... no seasoning... the toppings did not complement the burger.... to be honest... I rather had a whopper...
there is bf's order.... it was huge... but to conclude the experience at five guys... I have no doubts about their product quality, and cleanness, I am sure they use the top quality beef and freshly cut fries... but they can work on their flavours.. I quit enjoyed the peanuts... that was a nice idea, and the fries were not half bad... we ordered wayyyy too much.. and we end up walking around stuffed... but for $17, I expected it!!
