Needless to say .. a great dress starts with shopping!

I tried on a number of dresses today.. but.. because I do not have the attention span to finish commenting on all of them  in one day, so I will divide it into two parts.. stay tuned for part two <3

Reminiscing

I can still remember exactly what happened last year this day, it is the second day I was at Wuxi (the city where my bf is from) and we went to ChangZhou (常州)

I probably have said this a million times before.. but I miss the great time I had in HongKong! I cannot think of any other time in my life when I had soooooo much fun! and met soooo many great people! Every time when I am stressed out about something, I would think that if I was in Hong Kong, none of it would matter!

I think while exchange is a great experience, too much of a great experience makes people refuse to move forward. I get Facebook status updates from friend I met Hong Kong reminiscing about the memories all the time! I would think that there were no better people I could have met than who I have met. There were no better experience I could have had than what I had.

I try to keep a piece of memory alive whenever I can, so I kept a lot of things I got while I was aboard.

The journey started from the two acceptance letter from my home university (Queen's) and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). I remember the day when we went to see our offers.. I was so nervous thinking I might not get my first choice... but when I asked bf.. he was like.. "of course I got my first choice"... sigh...

Pan Fried Tuna Nugget

Despite my uncontrollable addiction to Taiwanese drama, I am glad to keep up with my food diary <3
I had some canned tuna on hand with me today... I never know how people normally eat canned tuna... tuna cracker?? but I have always used it as a ingredient to make it into a dish!

Sometime I make tuna mixed rice...  which is delicious, fast, easy, and healthy! (now I want to eat it now >.<) but today I m going to make pan fried tuna nugget <3 with a little Taiwanese flare... (I think Taiwanese drama have affected me way too much )

Here is what is needed:
1/4 cup of tuna flake
1 egg
1/8 cup of all purpose flour
tapioca flour for coating
1/4 teaspoon of salt (adjust for taste)

Winter melon soup

this is what I have resulted to..... no pressure from exam and no classes mean that I would lay in bed all day and too lazy to put on any makeup >.< but I will  need to get up eventually to cook some food for myself...
my parents are not on holiday yet so I need to feed myself...

I only started to cook for myself after I started university...therefore... my mom had little influence on my food/cooking style.. I am proud to say that I taught myself to cook (with the help of internet) so .. the ingredient I usually use are often not available at home.... this calls for some imagination! so I made winter melon soup..
winter melon soup with Chinese bun<3
and here is how I started!!! keep reading!

Home Alone

bf when to Toronto last night, so this weekend is a rare chance for me to do all the things I love but bf hates ~ <3
not that I do not miss bf, but a change is always good !

starting from last night.. I was being very unproductive, as usually, and could not focus on studying... so I made shrimp spring roll.... learning from the last time I made spring roll as seen in this post <-- click me to see. I made them much smaller this time! I am not a big meat eater... so biting a mouth full of meat was not so pleasant.... this time the spring roll has shrimp, egg and green peas <3 sooo good!

I was waiting for bus today to go shipping downtown when I got really bored... the bus was late... there is a old lady smoking right beside me.... and the wind is blowing all of her smoke my way!!!!!!!! so I took some pics of the beautiful queen's university.

I have to say I kinda failed... my huge thumb is on the bottom left corner... ( I would photoshop it out .... but I m lazy >.<)

weight loss program?

I will admit this is not the most exciting entry... but I felt the social responsibility ( OMG... so much BS) to spread the word

One of my elective course this year is physical fitness.. its really hard, we have to memorize a lot of training rules, how many sets and reps.. etc.. but admittedly I learned a lot.... and it has kinda convinced me to changed my lifestyle a little bit... and I really want to share what I have learned

So a part of the course teaches how to lose weight.... I bet some of you are now thinking that I m a obsessive weight control freak who goes on diet every day... sigh...... I m not... and people who know me will know tell you that I eat every thing and in large quantities.. partly because I am blessed with an awesome metabolism that maintains my weight regardless of what I eat ... muahahahahaha (really some people are like that)

you be the judge, I m 5'5", 52 kg, average right? ( I swear I m not lying....... weight me any day)

university is really forcing a unhealthy lifestyle on me... I do not usually eat breakfast, large dinners, sleeping late, and no exercise... wow... no idea how many years I took off of my life by doing that

So in fitness class, we learned that eating breakfast is really important to loss weight! because:
1. you body is the most hungry in the morning after a whole night of no food.. so your metabolism (the rate food is digested)  is really high! and you can eat a lot and not gain any weight..

2. if you starve your self till noon, biologically, metabolism drops, so you eat a lot of food, but its not digested so it remains in your body to become fat!!!(NO!!!!!!)....

3. by night... biologically, your metabolism rate drops again.. as it prepare your body for sleep.. so the huge amount of food I eat just stays in my body to become fat >.<

therefore eating breakfast will keep your body full while not gain any weight!!!! soooo good!!!

so... now I have started to eat breakfast! and I hope everyone else do it too! but not sugary cereal la! protein (meat! eggs! tofu!) and complex carbs!!! (so I eat eggs or peanut butter with everything bagel!)

There are so much really good information I want to share.. like, sleeping patterns.. what to drink... and how terrible Splanda is..... more later... maybe..

[PART3] M is for Montreal

Oct 23! OMG I am 21 >.< old... ..... recently i have been looking at my photos from a few years ago and ones I took in first year university... I do look much older... bigger bags under my eyes, wrinkles?

wish I can be forever 21.... sigh..
I actually started  my 21 by watching dateline... late at night. pretty interesting! hope the rest of 21 is interesting too <3

here is the first photo I took of me at 21 years old..

Montreal has some really awesome graffiti! maybe Toronto has some too.... but I am not in the downtown area much.. but certainly not in Kingston! this is kinda of bad pic... does not show off how beautiful the graffiti actually is! I, myself, have learned all kinds of visual arts for years... and I do admire the free style of the graffiti, the lack of planing and just draw what you feel like! cause when I draw there is always a lot of outline, proportioning etc...

[PART 2] M is for Montreal

the fun continues!!! yeah!!!

here are some more pictures I took on the streets of old Montreal

I feel like such a tourist when I try to take a picture with everything that has word Montreal on it. even though Toronto has Bank of Montreal too... but  I bet its not in french! lol..

the guy behind me totally ruined the picture! heng! old Montreal really have a strong European feel, very similar to the street of Riga, Latvia which is about the most European place there is! walking down the streets you would come across a strong smell of cigarette smoke once in a while, which is a little annoying! but I envision the 1920s when people used the old pipes to smoke ( that was the 1920 right???? I did not not check of historically correctness) a little romantic.... but I suggest to experience it only once in a long while... 2nd hand smoke is totally not worth it!

I am still glad Toronto banned public smoking! yeah! lol

M is for Montreal

Here is a sad story that I have been telling a lot of people, as of today I have been in Canada for about 11 years, and I have never been to Montreal until recently. meanly because it's soooo far away from Toronto ( a 8 hour drive) and dad is the only one who drives in my family..... (well.... I do drive, but mom does not trust my driving skills to ride in it)....

I have been bugging my bf forever to go to Montreal with me during the school year since it's a lot closer from Kingston (where my university is located).. but school year is really busy, and I go back to Toronto every holiday I get.

Around two weeks ago, bf told me he had a surprise for me, here is a little background information for you, my bf like to say that he has surprise for me to get me happy when I m sad, but usually it's nothing big so I did not expect very much when he said that. But then he told me that he is taking me to Montreal! I was sooooo happy!!!!   muahhhhh <3 thanks lg

For the next 2 weeks, I did a lot of "research" but it's more about where I am gonna go to eat and play!!!! so I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Here is a tip to book cheap hotels!

I really do not consider myself as an adventurous and open to new ideas. But bf is! so we tried Hotwire

Here is how it works, it's quite easy actually! go to hotwire.com , enter the city you are going to and the dates you are there for, and it will pop up several hotels at the specific area at a really low price but they do not tell you >.< only when you book the hotel will it tell you which hotel it is.

so it's a little bit of risk! but they do tell you the number of stars the hotels has. The anonymous offers usually gets you around 30 % discount, but if you are more concerned with getting a specific chain of hotel, there is a second window that pops up that does that, there is usually less discount, but you know which hotel you book!
We were adventurous and booked anonymous 4 star hotel at $87 per night!! once we paid we found out its Delta hotel! The total came too $107 with tax and fees.

we booked mega bus which came to $100 for two people round trip, and we were all set

The morning of was not soo smooth, we were almost late
for our bus! I did not get the Tim Horton bagels I wanted
for the ride. But it was a good thing I was prepared the night
before! so we made the bus anyways XD

cannot stop cam whoring (apologies) look so sleepy >.<

"NO car, NO house, NO marriage"

A song released on international women's day ... a reflection of the current Chinese society's view towards marriage ..  translation is provided at the bottom ..

The western society may find that basing marriage solely on the foundation of having a house and car is not right.... but it just goes to show how China's dramatic economic development has affected the Chinese people. The large social gap are forcing people to marry rich in order to go up in the social ladder .....

Chinese parents are known to be very controlling over their children, mainly because of the Chinese one child policy, they cannot afford for their only child to fail in life. Often, parents interfere with their child's relationship, forcing break ups simply because the men does not have house or car........ all the best to them..
