I had a terrible case of acne when I was young, and I still have some scars left to prove it. In more recent years, I have learned a few things that dramatically improved my skin, and I have to say, though it's not perfect, my skin today is in the best condition since my pre-teen years.
When it comes to acne I blame a lot of the things, poor genetics, make up, terrible product that causes acne etc.. While the above reasons may all be true, there are a few other causes that are often over looked.
Here are 5 questions you should ask yourself to get started on your road to better looking skin~
Question 1: Are you keeping your face clean?
It is crucial to effectively clean your face at least twice a day. I even venture into three times a day when I really get into skin care.
Once before you sleep, and once when you wake up. That’s approximately once every 12 hour! (Try every 8 hours during summer time)
EFFECTIVELY is the key word here! It does not count if you just wet your face every hour. You really want to get into those pores, and I would totally recommend using a face cloth or some other kind of cleansing tool.
I found this beautiful thing when I was in Hong Kong, but you can order it from eBay for $6. it’s called 3M Nexcare Mirco-fibers Facial Cleansing Cloth Skincare
The fiber gently pulls dust away from the skin, as well as lightly exfoliate the pores. (I can physically feel it when I use it!)
Question 2: Are you using a good cleanser?
You should also ask yourself if the cleanser you are using is leaving behind residue on your face, which can clog your pores, thus breakout!~ I always use Dove soap to clean my face again after using my face cleanser. It gets ride of any impurities left by my cleanser and leaves no soap scum itself, I have seen a major difference in my skin since using it.
Question 3: Do you have sensitive skin?
If your skin is extra bitchy, like my, perhaps you should turn to products that are meant for sensitive skin to give your skin that extra care. Most of the products out there are scented, which can be irritating to the skin, aka breakout!!
According to American Academy of Dermatology ( with that lengthy of a name, you know they are legit!) nearly half of us have some degree of sensitive skin..... some sensitive skin get rashes, you may just get break outs... I personally try to use sensitive or perfume free products as much as possible, especially ones that are applied directly to my skin (e.g. body wash, moisturizer, serum etc.)
Question 4: Are you constantly touching your face???
Touching your face is a big NO NO!! Avoid it as much as possible! you have no idea the kinds of things your hands touch everyday. I am sure you have all heard of scary stories of the germs, deadly bacteria that can make you sick, that’s why you are urged to wash your hands all the time. When you touch your face, you are just smearing the gems all over your face!! (>.< Yuck!) are you really surprised when you end up with pimples??
Question 5: Are you putting on too much product??
When I turned 20, I freaked out and cut my hair and got bangs, (cause bangs look younger). When I turned 22, I really freaked out and started to use night cream. >.< When I first started to use night cream, I thought the more the merrier, so I applied thick layers of night cream hoping it would reverse the signs of aging! But I ended up with break outs... I immediately blamed the night cream and left it to die in the corner of my makeup drawer, never to see daylight again.
The night cream I got was a little bit of an investment, and I thought long and hard before buying it, so I really did not want to give up on it. I took it out again after a few months. This time, I was not too excited about it, and applied the normal amount, prayed for the best and went to sleep. I got no new pimples for the days that followed. Then I thought, of course! night cream is very rich, and there is only so much my skin can absorb, if too much is applied, what is not absorbed will be left to clog the pores.
Moral of the story, keep it in mind to not over apply product, it wastes money and kills skin !
That's it for now, will be back with another entry soon <3 LOVEs
Sunny~
