I was looking in the mirror yesterday and I suddenly realized that my skin has been so good to me for the past few days, my skin tone is even, dark spots are reduced, and I no longer woke up to dried out skin!! I kept on thinking what I have been doing differently for the past few days so I can keep doing it, and I realized that it’s Calcium!!! If you too do not drink enough milk, increase your calcium intake may be the solution to beautiful skin!
I am not a milk lover and I have always known that I am calcium deficient, my nails were never able to grow very long before it breaks, but I can live with that. A few weeks ago I decided that I wante to take steps to become healthier, and improving my calcium intake was the obvious choice!
We all know that calcium is great for our bones and teeth, and it’s crucial in growing out long, strong nails for painting nail polish~ but I never realized how calcium can be so beneficial to the skin as well!
After a little digging, my research tells me that calcium is important in cell renewal, and it’s also prevents the loss of moisture! If you think about it, increased speed of cell renewal means the cells that make up the dark spots on your skin are replaced with new, healthy cells faster, and dead skin cells are replaced by healthy skin cells faster, so you will always have that healthy skin look <3 love it!
Any skin care junkie would know the importance of moisturing after cleansing your face, well then you should also know the importance of sufficient calcium in your diet to doubly moisturize your skin!!
I always believe that the natural method is superior to articial, no matter how great or expensive your moisturizer is, it’s still chemicals, and I try to go for the natural way on my skin as much as possible. By no means am I ditching my moisturizer any time soon, but I sure love the result of sufficient intake of calcium and vitamin D.
According to Health Canada, the daily requirement of calcium is 1000 mg per day, and because you need vitamin D to absorb calcium, you will need to either stay in the sun for half an hour every day, or take 600 IU of vitamin D.
I know all that sounds very complicated, so let me make this easier! a cup of milk has 300 mg of calcium, so you will need to drink 3 cups of milk and stay out in the sun for at least half an hour everyday. (they say 20 mins of full body, aka nude, sun exposure gets you sufficient vitamin D, I am going to guess 30 mins with clothes on)
I personally cannot meet that requirement because I do not like milk and I have a 9 to 5 job, so this is how I cheat to meet the requirement! I drink one large cup of vitamin D added milk and one calcium with vitamin D supplement pill. Together, I have just the sufficient amount of calcium. ( each supplement pill is different, so be sure to do your math)
Is calcium and vitamin D the missing puzzle piece to your health skin?
