Holiday Make up Temptation and Benefit Cosmetics' They're Real! Mascara Review

Hey Sunshine,

Yes, I am back, and I promise that I will return to this blog every single time I am not swamped with my other components of life. But if you want more of me, and I know all of you do, you can check out my Youtube Vlog channel Sunnydraco Vlog or my DIY channel SunnyDIY.

Any how, let's catch up! The holiday season is almost here, and for the past few days, I am spammed with holiday promotions, and the sad part is that I want to buy them all!!! But for the sake of my wallet size, I cannot >.< I saw these two eye shadow palette that's just so pretty, and so value pack that I am having a constant struggle with my inner self to not type in my credit card number and hit submit. Here is the thing, the thing is, I have never finished using a single eye shadow/ eye shadow palette that I have ever bought, meaning, I have a ton at home. But the collector's mentality is kicking in and I just want to buy it to own it, even if it means I will, maybe, use it only a few times before I move onto the next fav.

tarte - Bon Voyage Collector's Set And Travel Bag
Here is an item I am considering, ok, it's more like item-s... but it comes in a set.
It's the Bon Voyage Collector's Set and Travel Bag by tarte, and it's only $71. I mean, sure it's a little expensive, but a single palette costs around $60... like the Naked palette by Urban Decay. How can I allow myself to miss out on this awesome bargain. Like any good shopper, I will wait a few more agonizing days to prove to other people that it's not an impulse buy. Yes, I am terrified of judgement.

This morning, as I put on my makeup, I decided that I will give Benefit Cosmetics' They're Real! Mascara (C$ 29.00) a third chance, because I really want to love an item that everyone else seems to love. I feel like, in a way, if I do not love it, I am weird, or my judgement is off and the earth is no longer round any more. Ok, I kid, the earth is, and will always be, round.

Benefit Cosmetics - They

Ok, so here is the series of events that took place this morning. I perfectly applied eye shadow, eye-liner and made sure my lashes are as curly as it can be. Then, I took a deep breath and hoping for a different turn out as I wiggled my They're Real! Mascara wand from base to tip over and over again to build up the layers.

They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. This mascara is honestly driving me insane. It SUCKS!!!

Ok, ok, so it's not all bad, and I feel after so much resentment I should really explain myself.

I will start off with the positive, and there are many.
1. I like the wand, it coated each individual lash without clumping
2. The tip of the wand is domed so it can coat the bottom lashes
3. As for lengthening and volumizing? I will give it a passing grade, but I should warn you to expect no miracles.

My issue? The formula sucks at holding the curl, and as soon as it's on my lashes, my lashes point straight down and that's just not cute.

Forget volumizing, forget lengthening, to me, the number one thing a mascara should do is to hold a curl, then, volume and length are bonuses.

Now I question if the whole love affair with Benefit's They're Real! Mascara is really a very successful marketing campaign.

As much as I hate to say bye, bye to a very expensive mascara, it's just not worth it to kill an awesome eye make up look with a bad mascara job.

Ok. enough complaining from me, and I promise I will return shortly.

XoXo Sunny

Roll Up Makeup/ Toiletry Bag DIY

Life have been so hectic for the past few days, between travelling, put up new DIY videos every week, work and family life, I was forced to put this blog on the back burner. But it was certainly not forgotten, I am jumping right back on since I have a little time now.

Like I mentioned, I was travelling, to New York specifically. My boyfriend and I were at a cottage in upper New York state for two and half days then we enjoyed the city life for another two and half days. As you can imagine, Manhattan is hectic as usual. Between the congested one-way-streets and the people rushing to get out of the MTA, I am quite sure I would not be able to find anther city that's as "happening" as New York. Having lived most of my life in Canada, I am not sure I will ever get use to the dirty streets and the lack of lush greenery. Despite all, I still had a wonderful time.

Wow, what a huge digression, I am really writing this blog to post the DIY tutorial below. Since I was travelling, I made a roll up toiletry bag to carry all my make up and toiletry items.

Hope it will become handy! Remember to subscribe for more DIY videos by clicking HERE

How I Spend A Thousand Dollars to Get Clear Skin

Before and after picture coming in a few hours

I have completely overhauled my skin care and diet routine not so recently, I now wear no primer, foundation and concealer of any kind and only rely on my unprocessed Shea butter as a moisturiser. My skin looks better than ever!

The whole thing started about eight months ago. It was before Christmas when I first noticed that a large acne on my face had not gone away after a week, and then it was two weeks, by the third week, it was finally gone... but before I could breath a sigh of relief that all the photos I will take during Christmas wouldn't be completely ruined, three more of what I thought was acne popped out. The only thing I was hoping at this point is that they would go away before January rolls around and I go back to China to meet my boyfriend's family. But of course, I was not so lucky. My skin had only gotten worse when I left for China, and by this time, I was sure it's not acne, so I suspect it might be some form of eczema.

I stayed in China for 3 weeks and it was an uncomfortable experience at best (skin-wise). My skin condition deteriorated very quickly, and I clearly remember my boyfriend's aunt suggested that I go for treatment so I can be "prettier." What a slap in the face. I do not blame her though, it was very bad, it was all over my face, neck, and arm. I was in a state of a minor panic, thinking, is it ever going to get better?????

Both my mom and my boyfriend's family suggested me to try traditional Chinese medicine, but I hesitated initially because I was still foolishly thinking it will go away on its own, plus I was afraid to be tricked by the doctor since not all traditional Chinese medicine practitioner are legit.

At this point, I stopped using all skin care products and cosmetics in case that is what was causing it. Besides it was not able to cover the weird skin condition anyway, it looked even worse with make-up on.

A week before I was due to leave China, I was so desperate that I decided to give traditional Chinese medicine a try. No matter what happens, it cannot get much worse than it already was.

So after a few thousand RMB, $500-$600 USD, I was told that my kidney and spleen is weak and I need to stop eating all fried and raw foods. Both the kidney and spleen is responsible to remove toxins from the body, and the fried food I ate had damaged my kidney and spleen so much that it can no longer expel the toxins fast enough, so it showed up on my skin. I was prescribed  a ton of Chinese herbal medicine and warned against eating fried and raw food. Thinking back, I did eat a lot more fried food while I was in China, though by no means was it a lot, which is probably why my skin condition worsened so quickly.

It took 2 and half month to get my skin back to normal. My mom was happy that there is no scars, my boyfriend was happy that I have clear skin again. As shallow as it is, which guy does not want a pretty girl? And most of all, I was happy because not only was my skin back to normal, it's better than before! Probably because I stopped using all skin related products. let's face it, all cosmetics are man made and contains ample amount of toxins, and either a dirty brush or the dust collected on the product will clog your pores, causing acne.

What I find with skin care products is that, your skin is great while using it, but as soon as you stop, pimples and white heads starts to appar everywhere. Which make me question what kind of scary chemical, likely cancer causing, is in the product? I am terrified of chemicals, you never know when someone is going to tell you a certain product you used will give you cancer.

I did fall off the wagon a few times, and give into chips or fried chicken, my skin bitch slapped back at me with pimples and the weird skin condition I had before.  So now a days, I eat no fried food, wear no skin make up (though I still use eye shadow and eye liners), and my skin thanks me with clear skin. it's that simple.

So if you are sick and tired of pimples and acnes, change up your diet and skin care routine, and give up all fried food and skin care products!

Game of Throne Craze

Hey all, I have been putting up a lot of tutorials lately, and I figured it’s about time to catch up on my life… mainly my obsession with Game of Throne [Warning: The following contain SPOILERS]

Check out my Daenerys Targaryen necklace DIY if you too share my obcession!

I recent started to watch Game of Throne, and I just cannot stop myself from watching it!!! I do not think any of my friends watch it, and I just need to discuss it with someone, anyone, so I chose the interest. Where to begin? I personally really like the Lannisters. Character-wise, I like more members of the Lannister family than the Starks. Ned, Bran and Ricken Starks, as Baelish puts it, is just so good, so good to the point of BORING!  I do not like Catelyn Stark mainly because she was not good to Jon Snow, and Sansa is an idiot who kind of deserved what she got. I mean Ned tried to send her away, but she refused and wanted to stay by Joffrey’s side, and that’s exactly what she got. I guess the Starks did not teach their daughter how to judge a person’s character.

Robb Stark got cocky after winning a few fights and thought he can do whatever he wanted, and that was the beginning of his down fall. By the end, he was so full of himself that he thought he was already the king. And that wife of his, Talisa, knew Robb was promised to another but still could not keep her hands off of him. Their marriage started and ended in a horrible way, but I cannot say I did not see it coming. I remember one guys said “The war was lost when you married her (Talisa)” and he was right.  I like Arya Stark and Jon Snow well enough, but the rest of their family really brought down the average score for the Stark family.

In contrast, I liked the Lannisters the best, with the exception of Joffrey of course. I can even find it in my heart to forgive Cersei. I mean, she really did love the king once and wanted a different way of life, but it was Robert’s 30 years of emotional affair with Lyanna Stark that made Cersei the way she is. I mean, as a woman, I can totally understand if my husband marries me but does not love me, I would want to take everything away from him including his kingdom. Thus Cersei is forgiven. As for Joffrey, can you really be mad at a psychopath??? I mean it’s not his fault that he was born out of an incestuous relationship, besides, Tyrion and Tywin Lannister mocked him enough to offer me some relief from wanting to kick him and make him cry, and then I will point and laugh at him!! AHAHAHAHAAHA! He did eventually die, so I will not speak too ill of the dead.

My favour character from the whole series has to be Tyrion Lannister. I mean I have always liked my man smart, and I would pick a smart man over a handsome man any day of the week. I mean he used his intelligence to compensate for his height and played the game well as the hand of the king. Is not he the only hand of the king that lived? Besides, in the first episode (I think) he slapped Joffrey multiple times (awesomeness!). He helped Jon snow and did not take advantage of Sansa when he had the right to (They were married for heaven`s sakes. He is nice to his servants. But I like him mostly because his is smart. Can you tell I really like a smart man?

Jamie and Tywin Lannister won points for being really handsome. I think they killed too many people for my likeing, but how else can you lead an army and fight battles. I respect that they do not kill senselessly (as far as I recall).  I try not to think about Jamie and Cersei and how he nearly killed Bran. I blame it on the hormones… I do credit him for saving the whole population of King’s landing by killing the mad king, rescuing Brienne of Tarth and Tyrion. And when Aray briefly served Tywin, he was pretty nice to her.
While I say I like the Lannisters, I do not think they are without faults, but at least they are interesting. And with Joffery dead, I think they are pretty much perfect in my book.

My other favourite female character has to be Margaery Tyrell.  Are you thinking “What? What about Daenerys Targaryan?”  I mean it’s is one thing to be beautiful and hatch dragons, it is quite another to be able to manipulate Joffery. Margaery is pretty, and smart enough to have Joffery wrapped around her finger. That’s far more than what Sansa can do. And she is a genuinely nice person, always a bonus.

I guess I should say something about Daenerys Targaryan, seeing she will probably rule Westeros in the end. But this is Game of Thrones, people drop dead like flies. I bet no one thought Ned Stark would die in the first season. Daenerys is just fine. She is pretty, she has the right blood line, and she is not afraid of fire. Tyrion’s little trick during the battle of black water would have probably done very little damage to Daenerys. I guess I am not too into Daenerys because she is not a part of the story yet, she does her own thing separate from everyone else who is in Westeros. Maybe I will like her better when she eventually goes into battle.

Ah~ I feel better now. Hope I did not give away too many spoilers. At this point of the show, I am getting a little confused by the sheer number of characters involved, there are too many story lines to follow form the different characters…. Still an exciting show none the less.

Easy Chocolate wrapper Rose DIY

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" or so Juliet Capulet thought. My favourt fictional character Anne Shirley seems to think otherwise. "I don't believe a rose would be as nice if it was called a thistle or a skunk cabbage" said Anne.

Are you testing to see if you would think of a rose the same way if it was called a thistle or a skunk cabbage? With all this rose talk, I bet you really want to learn a quick and easy way to make roses! Well, you are in luck~ click on the video below to learn two ways of making roses out of chocolate/candy wrappers <3

Best Gamathon NA (North America)

From the producers of Learnathon comes the even more epic Gamathon. This May, you too are able to experience the awesomeness, the thrill, the sanctification and the fun of the Best Gamathon NA!

Lol, the above was my attempt to sound like one of those movie trailers, you really have to read it in a deep manly voice to feel the full epicness of it.

If you follow my vlog on Youtube ( here is the link to my channel https://www.youtube.com/user/sinyia), you will know that my boyfriend is a gamer. While I am no gamer, mostly because I suck at it, he has yet to give up on trying to convert me into one. His latest attempt is hosting his first ever Gamathon for me, which is simply hours of continuous gaming. And not having had participated in a gamathon in the past, I can safely say this is the BEST gamathon I have ever had. In my Vlog [Sunny Vlog] Are You Happy Now  you will see me buying a PS3 controller in preparation for the Gamathon.

Here is how things went down on the day of. Obviously, no good gamathon starts in the morning, it's more of an afternoon, late night kind of thing. So we spent the morning planning our menu for the event, which was simple enough, chips will be our snack, and we will order pizza and pop when dinner time comes, and of course a bottle of vodka. Draco, the boyfriend, actually wanted to get Cheetos, and claimed that Cheetos is the snack of choice for a legit gamathon, but I eventually got my way and we ended up with honey mustard flavoured kettle cooked chips. You guys have to understand, I do not allow myself to eat chips, but I love chips, therefore, I take every opportunity to eat them when I have to eat some form of junk food. Sure, I could have skipped eating chips, and Draco would understand, but I did not want to be a party pooper... (lol, excuses I come up for myself)

We also spend the morning to hunt down some Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Lame? Not really la, a side from it being a awesome childhood game, it is really an attempt to catch up on things I never had as a child. My family was by no means poor, but being new immigrants who had to start life from scratch, we had little money to spare. I had no allowance as a child, and we hardly bought anything outside of necessity. I had my first Starbucks when I was 18, and Draco bought it for me. Sure, I wanted a lot of the things other kids had, but I knew enough to not burden my family, and I knew never to ask for anything. Although I did not know Draco as a child, we shared the same end result of never played Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

So now that we both work and earn a living, a lot of the things we do, I do, is to catch up on the things I never had before, like drinking severely overpriced Starbucks and buying games that are probably not intended for my age group.

We bought the cards at Toys R Us, and the sales staff seriously give us the look of " aren't you a little old for card games...." But we shamelessly spend over $30 on Yu Gi and Kaiba's starter decks.

Our gamathon started at around 2 pm, and as with any truly awesome events, it was not without its dramas. The plan was to play Little Big Planet, but it threw a hissy fit and gave us a major issue that prevented us from playing for hours. We should have anticipated it really, it is a rather old game and we should have known there will be a huge accumulation of updates. It went on to downloading updates for the next few hours....

I am a picky gamer, and I only enjoy certain types of games, Draco was very excited to introduce me to Little Big Planet, hoping I would like it, so our hearts were set on playing that particular game even though we had other choices. We passed the time by playing Yu-Gi-Oh, which was equally exciting. I hogged Kaiba's deck because it was stronger, and Draco generously chose YuGi's deck, the weaker one, because he knows I am a sore loser, and will most likely quit playing forever if I lose.

We were both very in-character, me, the arrogant president of Kaiba Corp, and Draco, the ancient Pharaoh who believes in the power of friendship and heart of the cards. We made plenty of references to the show, and were like two geeks who were way too into the game. Of course, I won  most of the games because of my better deck. I guess believing in the heart of the card really only works in TV shows.

It was not long before we were tempted to order our pizza because one time we ordered a customized pizza that turned out awesome. It has chipotle pulled pork, ground beef and onion as toppings, classic tomato sauce and topped with bruschetta. It is amazing! Even thinking about it now I want to have a slice.

Little Big Planet did eventually finish updating, and the rule is, whoever collect less item than the other person at each level have to take a shot of vodka. Draco suggested the drinking rule with a smirk on his face, probably because he know he is a much better player than I am,  and he is right. After I lost the first two games, and took two shots, I kind of figured that I will likely take every other shot there after, so I called off the drinking rule. Unfortunately, two shots of pure vodka had zero effect on me...

The rest of the night carried out in a calmly fashion, me losing more games of Little Big Planet, and Draco, kicking my ass in Little Big Planet. But that's okay, we also played a few more Yu-Gi-Oh games, and I called him plenty of "noob" equivalent names.

All in all it was really fun, an awesome data night in our own nerdy way.

An IQ story and Spring Decor DIY: Blossoming Branches

I know most of what I post are beauty related content, but DIY is actually my one true passion. When I was in kindergarten back in China, all of the children got a IQ test at around 5 years old. Aside from the IQ score, my parents were told that I am very good at doing things with my hands and math is not my forte. Being from a Asian family, my parents were greatly saddened by the unfortunately news that I am not naturally good at math, and could not care less about some useless "good with hands" skill. So they had me work very hard in school, and for most of my life I excelled at math.

When I eventually made it to university, and moved to another town, I was finally able to regain control over my life and make my own decisions because my parents are too far away to do anything about it. As a result, I naturally leaned away from math and all number related subjects such as finance, accounting, etc. and choose to focus on marketing. At the same time, I started to cook for myself and boyfriend, and did a lot of DIY during my very limited spare time. I guess, it's my "good with my hands" skills kicking in.

The moral of the story:
1. I like DIY
2. You should always do what you like and naturally good at, and not try to alter who you are.

Wow, I went on a huge tangent there, here is an awesomely easy spring decor DIY that will true to brighten up my room for the even more awesome spring season!
